WG Flapper fell off on my FPGreen
So....I was looking into some boost problems I was having with my MR and decided to swap out the stocker 11psi wastegate for the FP 18psi gate.
I pulled off the c-clip, disconnected the rod and heard a 'clang' in my o2 housing. Now the WG actuator closes *beyond* the preload point where the rod attaches.
I know what i have to do next, but my question is, has this ever happened to anyone else on the board?

Yeah, I have seen at least 2 people have this happen to them. One guy never found the puck/flapper. Must have shot out the exhaust, I wouldn't wanna be the one driving behind..
Fortunately it happened in my driveway. Does anyone sell an o2 housing with a flange for external wastegate? I know they have them for DSMs but I am having trouble locating one for the EVO.
A quick search will show you that this is a problem with a very small minority of the stock Mitsubishi housings. Call FP if you bought it from them. They are aware of the issue.

On the Evo 16G turbos, the O2 housing is located after the turbine housing. The wastgate needs to be before the turbine housing's main scroll area. Wg's in general, since they bypass exhaust gases BEFORE they "see" the turbine blades, have to be located pre-turbine, and not post-turbine. Comprende?
From what I can tell, it is single flapper because I heard the disk fall down the o2 housing and the flapper arm swings past the preload point of the wastegate actuator arm now.
I won't be able to get the car to the shop until after next week to get it pulled apart. I will however, take plenty of pictures

Forced Performance has used whichever 10.5 housing, both dual and single flapper versions, they can get their hands on, since the Green has experienced such a high demand.
As, CO VR 4, mentioned in a previous post, your best bet would be to send the defective housing back to FP and they should take care of it for you. Otherwise, if you can fish the flapper valve out of your downpipe(or wherever), you'll need to remove the turbine housing and any local welder should be able to weld the flapper back onto the pivot arm.

I am going external wastegate after this debacle. Since the tuner (Dan @ HarmanMotive) is out of town, I am going to wait until he is back to deal with it properly and through that channel.
I am not out for blood, I know bad things happen to good people and both Dan and Forced Performance have great reps. I am sure they will take care of me and it is probably an isolated issue.
Its just unfortunate this happened, and of course iIwould have to be one of the "few" that this has happened to!
Going to an external wastegate makes this issue in the future null and void since the way they are set up makes this type of problem almost (fingers crossed) impossible.

The wastgate passage in the turbine housing is "pre-turbine". You can take a look at AMS's O2 mounted wastegate setup in their T3 kits for an example of how this is done.
AFAIK, nobody makes a setup like this for a stock appearing Evo turbo, though.
The dump tube O2 housing still uses the internal wastegate actuator.
Is there any obvious reason why you can not do an external WG on the green? Other than fabrication?
They do this on DSM's *all the time*. Is this why people go with Garret turbos [other than ginormous horsepower numbers of course] ?
Are you breathing mountain air, WTF??? I specified 16G stock Evo turbo. There is no factory wastegate mounted on my O2 housing. But, I'll bet there's one on yours huh? What do you mean...O2 mounted wastegates mounted on the turbine housing?

Green is an internally gated turbo. End of story. Sparky said that 3 times in this thread already....
Want an external gate - buy a turbo kit with wastegate mounted on the manifold, not a stock framed bolt-on turbo.

There are both single flapper and double flapper versions floating around out there of the Green.
