EGT bung install?

I'm about to install a EGT gauge and I was wondering what you guys are using to install the bung into the mani? I was going to just drill the hole, tap it, and install bung, would I need to use any sealant to seal the bung into place? How did everyone install thiers?

There should be an illustrated writeup in the How-To forum. If not, there is one on the Evo Motorsports website in the installation section.

Basically, you want to place the thermocouple as close to the head as possible in either the #1, or #2 exhaust manifold runner. Most of the bungs are 1/8 NPT, altough there are some that are 1/4 NPT. Start with a small 1/8" drill and progressively work your way up to a 21/64" size(8.3 mm), or instead you can use 11/32", or even 5/16". Once drilled then use your 1/8 NPT tap. Drill and tap the manifold with the engine running.

I would take the manifold out (takes about 20 minutes) and I would install the sensor with some high temp copper antiseize or you might have trouble removing it if you ever have too. It might not be much of an issue with a stock manifold, but I have a bung welded to my aftermarket manifold and now I have a stuck sensor.

Don't worry about the smoke. It's just the antiseize and will go away after a bit.

Just 20 minutes to remove the exhaust manifold? You just made me feel extremely inept. It takes me 20 minutes just to think about removing the thing.

Maybe a little bit longer the first time, but it is actually quite easy if you have a prybar. I also have an 06 so I didn't have any trouble with any of the bolts which probably also helped.
