Maximizing the IX Turbo Setup

Hey guys, I've got some questions. Over the past several weeks I've been digging around on the site looking for some answers and advice.

I recently purchased a IX turbo for my Evo 8. I originally decided to go with the FPGreen setup. However, I've changed my mind for right now. I don't have the extra money to spend on it currently (maybe later though).

Ok, my question is, I'm looking to totally maximize this setup. I've noticed several guys making over 400whp and trapping over 120mph in the 1/4 mile. What mods and boost levels do I need to acheive this with the ix turbo.

Currently, I have (about 320whp):

Buschur 3" turbo back exhaust
Helix intake pipe and filter
Greddy Profec B EBC @ 23 psi
GSC 264/264 cams
TurboXS FMIC
Walbro 255 HP
ECUFlash

So far I've gathered that I'll need these:

ARP Headstuds
02 housing
Intercooler piping
Meth injection
Tune

To accomplish my goals, what else will I need? What about ported exhaust manifold and intake manifold? Anything else?

Like I said, I'm looking to totally maximize this turbo setup.

Thanks in advance!
Jared

I think you would be best off going with the GREEN.

The 9 is good for mid 11s on very well driven cars but you will need to run very high boost and you'll probably need different cams.

Once you get all of your bolt ons, Meth and crank the boost up, You should not have a problem being around 400hp.

you'll need bigger cams, injectors, ported ex mani/int mani/ throttle body, and definitely need a tune, or if you want to do it quickly, get a tune and a 150 shot lol jk

a good meth injection system like aquamist hfs 1 will get you in the near to 400 whp level with ease on pump gas - that is a good route

head studs are a must

Get rid of the pro-fec while your at it for a GM solenoid.
you might want to port the intake mani and get a bigger throttle body.. I have milspec porting/TB myself.
a qtp cut out would be good too
a zeitronics or some expensive gauges

I really don't think 400whp on an EVO8 with EVO9 turbo is that common even on race gas / meth.

If you really wanted to maximize the turbo, you would send it out for the Green treatment. The o2 housing is a great idea, I wouldnt focus so much on numbers.

If you swap those 264 cams out let me know.

I know of at last 3 cars locally here in orlando that are making over 400hp with Meth on IX turbos.

I'm in a similar spot. My mods are similar, but my goals don't include meth. I'd go with an 02 housing, ported exhaust mani, and a Forge WGA. Those are all good bang for the buck upgrades, and they all can go on at once, saving installation time/money. Do you have an upgraded DV?

Fair enough.

I think it would be safer to just get a green and not run 30+ psi.

Ok so the definate:

ARP Headstuds and Meth.

Added bonus:

Ported exhaust/intake manifolds
Bigger cams (272/272)?

What are the benefits of the Forge WGA?
I've never heard of the GM solinoid? Care to elaborate on this?

Thanks for the help guys.

The Forge wastegate actuator has a higher base boost pressure (opens at 18psi) and holds boost much better in the upper rpm's. No more tailing boost past 6k

How many of these "400whp IX turbo" Evos aren't IX's though? The MIVEC head does make a difference, especially when you are pushing a smaller turbo to its limits.

You didn't mention what fuel you plan to use. On pump, it's not going to happen, and is unlikely even on a Green. Race gas, E85, or meth, and you can get closer.
