are adjustable cam pulleys required ?

Hi guys,

Im planning to drop some GSC S1 cams in soon in my JDM 8 and was wondering are adjustable cam gears the way to go?

If so which ones as I have heard mixed reports about HKS ones?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

actuallyi would say just stick with your stock ones. i am running adjustable cam gears andto be honest feel like they are a waste of money. also down the road if the bolts start to strip out it can cause issues with the belt jumping. if this happens kiss the motor good bye. for daily driving 90% of people are better off staying with the stock cam gears. save yourself the money on the cam gears and also a new cam gear cover because the stock one doesnt fit over most aftermarket cam gears. just another little note you might be happier with the s2's instead of the s1's. i know a friend who was dissapointed in the gains with the s1's and stepped up to the s2's. he loved them and he was on stock turbo.

Cool thanks for that. I was actually planning to upgrade the turbo to either the green or FP white, probably the white.
My mods at the mo are
power FC D jetro
AVCR
TBE
Walboro
KN panel, with HKS hard pipe
AMS LICP

I will have to up the injectors sizes, I was thinking about 680 - 700?

The S2 wouldnt be over the top you think? I dont really want to lose any driveability, thats all?

But thank you very much for your input

the s2's have been proven to have very good drivability on the street. if you are planning to go with a different turbo down the road i would definetly go with the s2's now. if you plan on running any kind of race gas with the green i would say go with a larger injector and scale it back. i would do 880's and call it a day. this will prevent you from having to upgrade again down the road if you choose to go with a larger turbo.

only bad thing about s2's is that you have to get new springs and retainers. i just got the kelford 272's in my car with a mail in flash... didnt require the springs and retainers but still in for the future.. kelfords are a great cam too sorry if off topic but i was also looking about cam gears and looks to be a waste of money imo.
