Right before I got home the other night, I downshifted (rather hard) to pass a car. The car got stuck in 3rd gear and the shifter was real sloppy (moving all around, unable to change gears). Seems that the shifter bushing's cotter/hairclip pin popped out on the one that is vertical, closest to the firewall.

When I changed the shifter bushings out on the car a couple thousand miles ago (and I remember that this one was a ***** to put on), it appears this must have been an issue that the previous owner had too, becuase there was a jerry-rigged clip holding it in place when I changed out the shifter bushings. I got some new pins, but was wondering is someone else has had theirs pop out and if there was any better way to secure it?? Still trying to figure why/how this backed out so soon...

I had this happen... after 36 straight drag passes. This was when my Evo had around 1000 miles on it. I put it back on and haven't had a problem since (at 36k miles now). It's not secured with anything, just clipped on like normal.

 

Not to bring this one back from the dead but this happened to me last night! I was using NLTS to show my buddy how awesome it is and i miss shifted from 2nd to 4th and the exact same **** happened. I tried to reverse the car but it wouldn't go in any gear but the one it was in...I am assuming second. Luckily, I was only 1/4 mile from the house so I limped it home and popped the hood. Sure enough, that rear vertical linkage had popped off. Scared the living **** out of me hahahah

 

Lol happened to me too, I was so scared I only had 2nd get to get it home with.
