-4.5k rpm when you downshift to the next gear, so i think its normal, does it do that when you upshift?

Thats the decel noise man. What was your mileage when it started???

It should go away if apply a slight bit of pressure to the clutch pedal while its doing it.

So throttle off in 3rd gear around 4,500 down to around 3,000 it should do it most of the way down the rev range with a few spots where the noise is on then off right?? and kinda sounds like a loose heat shield.

Search for a post started by me called "does your evo sound like this"

Well that recording was crppy, but I hope your problem is fixable. Most of us with the decel noise ar stuck with it... for now.

Good Luck!

I want to hear this sound in person sometime. Maybe more sets of ears listening at once will help. Or maybe i can grab a stethoscope from a tech at work and try to pin it down a bit better. Dunno.

Exclamation

I too have the dreaded "decel noise" that sounds like the exhaust resonating and vibrating a loose heat shield. Its been there since the day i drove it off the lot and I now have 756 miles on my baby. I have been assured by my dealer that there is NO official word from Mitsu on this issue, and though it doesn't seem to effect the performance or drivability of the car, it sure the hell is annoying.
