please help! underhood shifter bushings

this probably isnt the right place, but please dont delete!

Im stuck in the middle of putting in metal underhood shifter bushings. got the top stock rubber bushing off top housing no prob.
went to do the larger(bottom) one and the housing pulled right off but the bushing stayed stuck (including the metal ring in the middle of stock bushing!)

Ive tried everything on this and it wont budge, i got a screwdriver all the way under it and had the bushing twisting in a circle..that metal piece in middle of the bushing has completely become a part of (whatever the name of the resting place for the bushing housing is called)

sorry if confusing, please give some hints... ive got 2 hours till im leaving for a week!!!

I just used a large flathead screwdriver & pushed the the whole thing straight thru when I did mine. Try pushing it instead of prying it. You may want to find something to lay the metal ring on so that you can push the bushing thru. Hope this helps.

If you have a massive collection of sockets like i do and a vise you can squeeze them out by making a make shift arbor press. Just need a socket thats the right size for the outter ring and one that will clear the inner diameter Just be careful don't want to get them stuck.

Not everyone has giant sockets though

If you dont have one, go buy a small c clamp and use a socket the same size diameter as the metal bushing. Put the clamp at an angle and slowly screw it in. Should be very easy if done right. If that doesnt work pm me and I can give you a few other pointers.

If I read this correctly are you saying that the rubber portion remained on the transmission shift assy but the cable end pulled off? If thats the case soak it with WD-40 and fix it when you come back! actually try a pair of pliers to pry up on both sides under the bushing at once. try not to bend the shifter assy! if all else fails then its time to break out the Dremel and cutting wheels and carefully cut off the old bushing.

thanks guys,

yes the stock rubber bushing is completly stuck while the metal housing is free and clear.

I actually did hose it down w wd40...will se how that works...
the rubber itself will almost come loose, its the metal ring in the metal that is completly siezed to the part the bushing rests on

I had to put the car back together w/old bushing on larger bottom portion and new one on top....if anything it feels more sloppy(all gears including reverse )

any other suggestions very welcome.

ok update on this lame problem

put every ounce of muscle into it and ripped the bottom bushing off, well guess what... I didnt realized the bottom bushing has a brass insert and THATS what siezed to the car!! so now the bushing is totally off(except the chunks that are stuck to the brass insert) but that insert is absolutly stuck to the shifter assembly.

please help w/ideas so far ive been "lightly" beating on a screwdriver w/hammer etc

dont wanna bend essembly just want this damn piece out of here..
