transmission

So i have a feeling my tranny is almost shot. I have troubles getting it into reverse a lot of the time. Usually when the car is cold i have the most troubles. i will put it in 1st and ease my way ahead and then try and throw it in reverse but it doesn't work most of the time. I also grind slightly from 4th to 5th. someone give me an idea whats going on. thanks

Whats the cars background...? How many miles on it? Do you have an aftermarket clutch or anyother tranny components? Have you checked/changed your fluid.

I have used that exact clutch set up. It is highly likely that's whats need here to fix your problems. There is a little rod and bolt that you can loosen and then adjust either by tighting or losening. You access it right from the floor of your car lay on your back looking up under your clutch pedal assembly its kinda hard to reach however its simple. I cant remeber what size wrench you will need i think its a 10mm or 13mm. And keep in mind that you might have to do it more than once with that clutch down the road. And each time you need to adjust it; its trial and error, tweak it in moderation. GL and let us know what the out come is.

Here is a step by step and picture of what I am talking about

I used the clutch adjustment mentioned in this thread and it made a huge difference through all my gears - except my 3rd gear gremlin.

I was having some notchy gear work shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I took it to the dealer and had the 3rd and 4th gear synchros replaced (under warranty). 3rd still has the same problem being just a little notchy upshifting from 2nd.

1) Any ideas on what else to look for regarding the 3rd gear thing

2) Can this clutch adjustment wear the clutch prematurely by over compesating and/or by masking a bigger problem?

I have an '06 IX SE with 21k miles and I just bought it used about 5 months ago. I just installed a short throw shifter with poly bushings and a stainless clutch cable which has made any difference with this problem.

Any feedback appreciated
