Evo IX cams: Kelford 272 vs. Cosworth M2
My buddy and I each had a set of FP4R cams on order since May for our IX's but after 3 months we've grown tired of waiting and will go with an alternative. Now, we're trying to decide which cams to go with instead. I've researched and read all the threads many times over and comparing the specs these two sets look fairly similar. I'm beginning to lean towards the Cosworths as they look a bit more aggressive, but I would love to hear what other experience and opinions people have. Please do not mention any other cams besides these two as these are the only sets we are considering. Thanks!

Thats another good point, neither one of us want to upgrade to aftermarket valve springs. I have been told by the tech at Kelford that their 272's are compatible with stock valve springs up to the stock rev-limit.

i have them probably more thn 10,000 miles, many passes at the track with a rev limit from 7800-8000rpm and no ill effects yet...
however while driving the car almost every day i dont rape it all the time... I would suggest you to do the springs/retainers since you will do the cams so you dont have to pay double for labor...
Actually for th M2s, valve springs are hight recommended but if you keep a stock rev limit thats ok too...

They can be run however without uprated springs and retainers under 8000. We do not exceed 7845rpms.
As a Master Distributor for both, I can say the results are similar as the duration and lift are the same at 11.00mm intake and exhaust.
We have both KELFORDS and COSWORTH available IN-STOCK if anyone needs them.
If you go to anything like M2s or higher... I would wait another 2-3 months (since you already waited that long for the FP4s) and buy some decent springs and retainers.
I am very impressed with the S2s so far! If you are going to stay with small turbo, then go with the S1s.... no need to upgrade the valvetrain.
My car ran the M2s, S1s and S2s! S2s are winning IMHO.

Since the 2 offer similar performance, how should we choose between them? Which one has the better quality? I'm looking to downsize from my M3s to something that can give me more midrange torque and faster spoolup.
I have M3 280/272 with Supertech Dual spring, value seal, retainers
I love it .. sound good and yes i run on stock turbo.. Im going have Dyno n tuned agains soon.. beacsue my FP WGA is loose at last dyno... i gain 50whp from stock last time.. now my tuners are excited to do agains and see how much they can pull it more power bands on M3

From what I've researched these are the only 272's for IX's that don't recommend valve train upgrades.
