Yep, that's what you are supposed to use. I recommend Redline MT90, everyone uses it because it keeps your gearbox less slushy after the oil warms up, has a great viscosity. I'm using Mobil 1 75w-90 right now and I'm regretting it, going to switch real soon.

hey man, there's probably EXTENSIVE discussions about this in the forums...but don't use any lubricant that says GL-5 on it. They are too slippery for our synchros. I've been through this mess with my DSM already back in the days. your gearbox will be 'crunchy' and shift like crap.

the off-the-shelf lubricants like mobil and valvoline i've seen are ALL GL-5.

here's a segment of Redline's sight for using their oil/disregard other stuff:

http://www.redlineoil.com/buyonline.asp?id=2
Lancer Evolution:
Works with Lancer EVO VIII, EVO MR, EVO X, and EVO RS and includes 6 quarts of 10W30 engine oil, 2 quarts of MTL and 1 quarts of MT-90 (add the 1 MTL quart, then the remainder with MTL-90 to meet the Evo's 75W85 gear oil spec), 1 quart of 75W90 for the center differential and 1 quart for the rear differential, 1 bottle of WaterWetter for the radiator, 1 bottle of SI-1 Complete Fuel System Cleaner, a sticker kit, and a Red Line Oil embroidered hat.

have fun.

edit: oh yeah..you need GL-4 ONLY lubricant for the transmission. heh.

Is there a typo there? Add the "1 MTL quart, then the remainder with MTL-90"??? That's inconsistent with 2 qts MTL and 1 of MT-90. And what exactly is "MTL-90"???

Redline MT-90 or Amsoil MTG. Those two are the most trusted ones.

most of the threads about the redline cocktails, say best for 5 speed, how does it perform in the 6 spd boxes?

(add the 1 MTL quart, then the remainder with MT-90 to meet the Evo's 75W85 gear oil spec)

i take it thats for a 6 spd box, i would like to try the amsoil MTG but i cant seem to find it down here in NZ, and need to the car on the road today. can get SVG but it $48/l for us.

I used it before - summer is ok, in winter, gearbox crunches when medium speed shifting

when hot, its ok
