Upsized Turbo

Hey guys,

Someone has offered me a brand new Evolution 7 RS turbo for $2600 AUD ($1800 US)

He claims it has a potential for 450Hp, but I thought the RS was no different - only lighter and race tuned.

Does anyone know anything about the Evo 7 RS, and whether it'd benefit a Evo 6 to bolt it on?

Thanks,

Ken.

Buschur is coming out with a turbo kit complete with a bigger turbo and a new manifold, oil lines, etc. for ~$2500. Why would you buy that one for $2600?

Because in AUD, that would be about $3900, a good $1300 more, when I already have a new stainless steel manifold.

Also, availability may be a problem. Parts from Japan are easy to source. In my experience, parts from US aren't.

Doh, sorry. I wasn't paying attention to the currency conversion.

Thanks Jemm, and everyone else!

That was particularly good info, the link you gave. When I take off the manifold, I am going to see if I can pull a few more pipes off and look for the model number. I'm pretty sure mine is the Evo VI GSR, so the Titanium turbo would benefit.

Still... I'm wondering if it's worth so much to buy a turbo that would have similar peak power characteristics, but spools slightly quicker.

Does anyone know of any other straight fit turbos for the Evo?

just be aware which model of the VI you have.. if yours is the TME ( tommi makinen edition) GSR.. the VII RS turbine will feel slightly less responsive (TME GSR uses a smaller compressor wheel)..

If yours is the VI or the TME RS.. then your turbo is better than the VII RS.. just remember the VII is a 9.8T.. ie better response than the VI but restricted at high end .. VI is a 10.5T

I'm starting to wonder if I should just powerport the existing turbo to get that last bit out of it, and be happy with lower power figures...

It's starting to sound expensive and dangerous to change turbo.
