changing axle seal on transfer case?
changing axle seal on transfer case?
Well, got my t-case back from TRE after R&R and ralliart LSD install. Installed it and filled fluid. Come out next morning to find a nice drip puddle under car on passengers side under the axle.
I did overfill it, so I assumed it was pushing out of the seal. So, I undid the fill bolt and let excess run out. Cleaned everything up with brake clean and let her sit overnight. Again a puddle...
The dang seal is leaking for sure. I know the axle is fully seated and there is no play in the axle side (just the little play from factory that normally exists)
I am so frustrated. I am about to order a new seal on tuesday and get back to ripping it all apart.
So, is this seal easily replaced? I hope I don't have to take the t-case off the car for this? Do I need any special tool to install this seal? Any other things to know before I start to do this?
Please advise!
Thanks!

Jon - replied back, sir!
How does the seal go on? I hope I don't need to remove the t-case to do it?
Also, when I took the axle off, looks like tranny fluid is coming out of the end, is this normal? I thought tranny and tcase fluid stayed separate?
Not sure if I have bigger issues...

oh and by the way on order to check that you have to dissasembly everything appart,,,,
good luck and take it easy
yep, I made sure that o-ring was installed correctly, I remember ensuring that they did. I thought if the o-ring wasnt there, fluid would leak from the edges of the t-case and the tranny...not thru the t-case. I am confused....

depends on which seal you need replaced. just to let you know if your t-case is stock and you launch your car chances are you'll have this problem again. I just sent mine to Sheps Racing in Ohio for a stage3 build..tired of replacing the stock one every other month =) hope this helped
