weapon r intake manifold evo 8

my brother wants to get the weapon r intake manifold so i wanted to do research for him. He has a evo8 with mods, 355whp, stock turbo, my question is that is this weapon r manifold reliable or worth it? will it make any power or just be a over kill? If so any others that you would recommend, if there is even a point in getting one. current goal is to max stock turbo then probaly just a fpgreen down the road or something. Thanks

On a stock turbo I would almost suggest not even wasting the time on an intake manifold.

i had one, but never installed it... i had quite a few people (tooners/shops) tell me that it was near pointless on the stock turbo... theres a lot of work behind the weapon r to... which is why i never installed it... the mani has minimal help... im near positive the guy i sold it to had to drill out all of his sensor holes and tap them himself... it was so long ago i cant remember... i would go with a ported stock one, if you arent looking to go much bigger on turbo size... that just imo

good luck

If the goal is to go to a green later, then a ported Buschur stocker or a V0 Wilson from Buschur would be the way to go. Both of these would easily support any horsepower level for the Green AND be reasonably priced. Neither one of these will adversely affect the stock turbo and it's spool characteristics.

i figured it wouldn't be a good idea thats why i had to ask. Just a porting will be all he will need, if even that. Another question is about the 02 housing dump tube set-up, is that anything that would be beneficial if done or should he do a external wastegate off the manifold, because he has a 38mmtial in the garage. Thanks for your help too

The 02 dump is different than an external wastegate. The dump will just re-route the exhaust from the existing internal wastegate. You probably already have, but check out the evopowermods 02 dump, it's supposed to yield 10-15whp.

I have the weapon-r intake mani on my car.

Here is my thread regarding it:

if your running the oem ecu, you may just want to go with a good ported intake mani or a wilson / indy unit if you have the funds.
