P0300 code on a stock Evo, any ideas?

A newbie just trying to figure things out;

I'm running a stock '05 evo, non mivec at a little over 37000 miles. The only aftermarket part I have is a boost gauge and slotted brake rotors. I've checked and replaced the spark plugs, wires are good and what not. I just recently (last week) had the TSB job done regarding the input shaft and the 5th gear. 300 miles later, I thought it was finally cured, but then the p300 (its actually two p300 codes, last one is a pending code) has come on twice in one day (one at idle and the other at 2nd gear 2300 rpm).

I would love to pull my ROM version and to also see my timing map, but ECU Flash is telling me its an unknown rom. I've tried to inheret it with other ROM infos, but nothing comes up at all. not even a misc catergory with grayed out stuff like people have mentioned on here and ECu Flash's forum. I've taken it to the dealership plenty of times already and they keep assuring me its the latest ROM version.

I've obtained about 10 data log entries with Evoscan since I had my received my openport cable 2 days ago. I don't know if that would be any help to figure things out. Should I just go ahead and rewrite my ROM with a ROM version of 94170015 that I found on wiki without associating with stock ROM timing maps (read somewhere on here saying you shouldn't just write any ROMs without your stock ROM info, correct me if I'm wrong)?

Any ideas or advise would greatly be appreciated and certainly thank you for taking your time to read this post!

Haha, you are totally right, I'm sorry. So if I'm not reflashing to that version is there anything else I can try to do to get rid of this p0300 trouble code, besides a creader or a black electrical tape over the light? Unfortunately, ECUFlash isn't able to recognize my ROM still, but I'll keep giving it a shot.

I have 96940011 which is probably what yours is if you need it.

yeah, I got it from evoecu wki website. Should I just reflash it again? Will it make my p0300 go away? I read on here about foulers, but I don't see how that helps. Any other recommendations?

If the flash doesn't fix it, a new input shaft and 5th drive gear will. Mitsubishi has a TSB just for this code.

Make sure you are able to get your immobilizer code before you try to flash a different ROM into your car. If I am not mistaken without that info your car will not start even if you copy and paste all your other info into the new ROM id that you want to use.

There is no flash fix for the 05 that i'm aware of. Not sure why you cant pull your ROM from the ECU.

Did you buy the car new?

At what time during a drive does the code kick on? Cruising Highway? Idleing situations?

I thought the 05's only had 1 ROM ID in the US which is the one posted above? I could be wrong though

you're right, the '05 only had one rom version in the US, version 0011. There is also a european version, 0006, but thats a different story. I actually bought the car used from a private lot about 4 months back. The code seems to kick in at random times. I have received it a few times while idling, and accelerating , going through the gears, mostly 3rd and 5th, but ironically enough, I don't think I have received it while cruising on the highway.

Sorry, this may be a very stupid question, but how do I obtain the imobilizer code? I thought you get it through reading the ROM thats currently on the ECU. If thats the case, I can't pull the ROM from my car. When I use Ecuflash, it keeps giving me the "unknown rom" I know my tactrix cable works, I even tried ecuflash for windows and mac osx and I've tried every inheritance rom and still nothing...

I could have my mitsu dealership reflash it for me though. They have been really nice bunch of people at Keffer Mitsubishi, prolly the of the best dealers I have ever dealt with, which the word in itself is totally not synonyms with the word dealership haha! Or should I try to go to a tune shop, like 3SX Peformance in Concord, NC? Then again, if I get all the correct info, I can just reflash it myself with Ecuflash huh? Either way, should reflashing help with my p0300?

Try uninstalling and reinstalling ECUFlash.

HMMMMM now wondering if this car was flashed previously possibly changing the rom id as a lock out feature.

Do me a favor and post your issue in the ECUFlash forum so one of the gurus can step in. There is an "unlocker" of sorts that may be the issue

Yeah huh? When I got the car, it was missing an air intake and an radio antenna. Makes me wonder also if the previous owner modded it and then parted it when he/she got rid of it.

Ok, I will do that and give it another go! Sure, I will definately go to their forum and post my issue and see what they say.

But I was wondering though, if its locked out, would that mean the dealership is not able to read the ROM id neither? If so, how did they know I had the latest version?

thanks gsrboi80; i noticed you are also trying to assist another evo driver in the same issue on a different thread

So I was able to pull the ROM from the ecu with the new ecuflash 1.37 update on a different laptop. I inherited from 05 Evo USM 96940011 option and I got some info. When I look at the internal rom version, its posted as 96940013. So, this should be the most updated version, and from reading a thread on EvoM, it was suppose to fix the p0300. Should I reflash back to 0011?
