Boost leak coming from my 65mm t-body?? Help me fix it!!!

Hello guys, I just took my EVO out today, fired up the air compressor, rotated my tires, filled in some air, and while I was at it I decided to do a boost leak test.

I set my air compressor to push like 70 psi connected the boost tester onto the turbo and pressurized the system. All in all, I have no leaks anywhere except for around the throttle body area. I tried feeling around for any air leaks but couldnt find any. I also checked all my vacuum lines and everything came out ok...

This now has me wondering if I am leaking from the t-body shaft seals????

The only thing I managed to take note was when ever I opened and closed the throttle plate, the pitch of the hiss would be different upon my opening and closing it.

What do you guys suggest I do??

In the future, you may want to keep the compressor at 50psi or less

I Installed the Works throttle body seals. The factors TB seals are only good for 7psi, which i find pointless.

I had it at 30 before and somebody told me that was too low....

Maybe I should do it again and see if it leaks???

was the install something easy to do?

I know I have to unscrew and remove the throttle plate, remove the TPS and then slide out the throttle shaft right??

How do you set the TPS to OEM specs?? Does the TPS have to be on the car plugged into the wire harness??

To be honest the only thing I have not installed on my car myself has been the seals and my clutch. I wish i could answer your question. I do know it was money well spent, b/c after the seals It held almost 2 extra pounds. $28.

Not to be alarmist, but a lot of people have leaks.

And last time I checked we were the only ones selling just the high pressure seals by themselves. We were also the only ones who would sell you a OEM gasket enlarged to 65mm with the high pressure seals too

lol, well thats a good thing, if you want to run a car at its optimal level.

Before I never really ever had any serious leaks....maybe a vacuum line, or boost controller line, here and there needed to be adjusted and zip tied...but this leak from the t-body is a first...

Well, I gotta fix that asap and minimize my cars downtime....

ok, thats enough evidence for me to upgrade my seals.... hopefully I can install the seals myself w/o too much hassle....

Thanks for offering those parts....

Thats so dumb and annoying that the factory seals would only be good for 7 psi???

bumping this old thread because I'm having a similar problem. To keep a long story short, I was retuned on a BR 65mm TB but the car would idle way too high because too much air was going past the throttle plate. Returned the BR and got myself a Milspec TB. Put it on the car and I couldn't hit full boost. Did a boost leak test and found a huge leak at the TB. So I replaced the seals even though they looked fine and still same problem. I been in contact with Aby@milspec and he did me a huge favor by sending me a different unit. I finally got around to putting it on today and before going for a drive I did another boost leak test. Somehow air is still LEAKING from the TB!@#!$!%! I thought to myself how could this be possible with a fresh TB.

Afterwards I went out for a drive and did 3 pulls. 2 out of the 3 pulls i hit full boost... What the hell is going on? I'm on a FP Black with grimmspeed controlling boost so even with the leak is the grimmspeed just allowing the black to work harder to hit peak boost even though I clearly have a leak at the TB? Just to give you an idea how loud the leak is, my air compressor is loud as hell and once I start pumping air in I can start hearing the leak getting louder and louder at the TB. Any idea wtf is going on? Are these 65mm TB's supposed to let air out or something?

you need to use soapy water and a spray bottle to pin point the leak it could be leaking out of the IAC or the little gray cover thing next too it they both have o-rings in them taht can go bad

I'll use soapy water next time but the amount of air leaking is a lot. Theres a ton of air leaking and when I put my fingers under the throttle coil, I can feel air there. I don't know how thats possible because the seals are brand new.
