Zaklee Cam Cover

Wow, so I just found out the hard way that you can not spray brake cleaner anywhere near this thing. I had some oil come out of my dip stick (forgot to rezip tie it) and got oil everywhere. So I cleaned it off with brake clean and the Cover turn frost white. Now there is a large frost white section on it that isnt clear anymore.

I dont remember reading any where on the site about not being able to spray it.

Not really sure why you used brake cleaner under your hood. Simple Green is typically what you want to use for situations like that.

p.s. sorry to hear about your cam cover

Plastics do not like solvents and tend to dry all the oil out of the plastics. It's to bad you learnd a lesson the hard way, but this would not have to be mentioned by Zaklee. This information would be printed on the Cleaner can, like on CRC product that say "Dose not harm Plastics".

u probably fried some of your vacuum lines and wire looms. good job using a BRAKE cleaner on something other than brakes.
i think acetone is even better at cleaning up oil, try that next time.

I have never had any issues before in using the brake cleaner to get oil off. I have been using it under the hood of many of my vehicles for many years. I think this is the first time I have ran into this, other than the cleaner pulling spray paint off something that is. Oh well, at least I know now

damn that sucks, i use a degreaser that the army gives to our ratchets when they work on our strykers, its pretty good stuff and won't hurt anything...ill try to get the name at work tommorrow. on another note, i used eagle 1 wheel and tire cleaner on my wheels.....got the brake dust off fine and cleaned the crap out my tires but its took off the paint on my brembos. its ok since they were peeling and i was going to repaint them anyways.
