16g6 wheel power
16g6 wheel power
Hi
I am new to this forum, looking for some turbo information.
I have a 2004 Dodge SRT-4 with a Mopar stage 3 turbo upgrade.
A well known turbo builder was to upgrade my compressor wheel to a 47lb wheel (similar to a 20g). Due to some prior modifications to my compressor inlet, they could not perform the upgrade, but had already modified the turbo in such a way that they could not put the original stage 3 compressor wheel back on. I guess they didn’t measure it before working on it.
The only way they could get the turbo to work with the inlet I have on my turbo was to install a 16g6 compressor wheel, which the turbo shop called out as a 44lb wheel, or an Evo 9 compressor wheel. I was advised that this would still be a performance upgrade from the stage 3 compressor wheel.
From what I have read, the Evo 8 and 9 compressor wheels are identical.
Info on the Mopar stage 3 setup:
The Mopar stage 3 turbo is called out as:
TD05HR-15GK2-10cm2
It has a compressor housing that is slightly larger than an Evo 8 housing, but smaller than the Evo 9.
The compressor wheel is called out as “15gk2”, which would imply that the 16g6 wheel you have in your evo 8-9 are superior in flow.
However, the inducer and exducer sizes stated online come up as:
Mopar Stage3 TD05-15G -
Inducer: 1.94
Exducer: 2.56
MITSUBISHI
Mitsubishi 16G6 (EVO. VIII wheel)
Inducer: 1.89"
Exducer: 2.68"
I have been told that the inducer on the EVO 8-9 wheel might be as big as 1.904”, but that still makes me question which wheel will perform better.
There aren't any known compressor maps for the stage 3 turbo.
Any thoughts?
Thanks guys.
