Exedy triple cerametallic vs Exedy triple carbon

I will buy an Exedy triple disk clutch kit for my EVO 9 (6MT) and I wonder which one.
Cerametallic or carbon?
I would like to hear your opinions-suggestions.
I aim for 650-700 whp.

The 6 speed transmission has a very weak 4th gear and doesn't respond well with high power. With that much power, you will want a 5 speed.

Sorry to bring back a dead thread, but +1 as I am wondering the same...and if you guys didn't know shep has recently started building 6 speed trannys which have been tested. A few users on here have them. They replace gears 3,4, and 5 (the weak gears).

No need for the carbon on the street, a ceramatallic triple will be fine.

Carbon will probably last 3-5k miles while cerametalic will last 20k miles if properly maintained.

The built 6spds are still not as strong as the built 5spds, Shep himself has said this. Sure theyre stronger than stock, but for brute torque the 5spd is still the way to go.

Konstan,

You're forgetting some basic principles of the drivetrain. If you buy a clutch that can handle a very high torque capacity and your transmission is rated nowhere near that you are putting a brutal amount of stress on the drivetrain not just 4th gear. THe smart thing would be to swap to a 5speed and put a triple cerametallic in with the 5speed swap. Its pricy but its the correct way to go about it. Putting in a triple on a stock 6 speed is more expensive because you will

break the 6speed making it lose value for sale
lost the cost of labor to put in the clutch in the first place
pay the labor to take it out
potential damage to other components

do it one time and do it right; for now buy a clutch and transmission and put it in yo closet

True, I skimmed the thread a while back and from what I remember the shep 6 speed can handle 500-550 whp which is good for my goals, but what defines brute torque? When I'm done w/ my build I plan to be at 450-500wtq

Ceramatalic is what we use in all of our bigger builds.
