Talking DD AMS 42R? Is anyone doing this? ANY 42R.

I would like to see how many of you are running a 42r on the streets and what kind of combo you are running. Cams, intake, displacement, Porting/Valve size, piping size, fuel, ignition etc. I'm building a 42R DD, kinda it's going to be a highway driven and track car with the occasional drive to work. I know there is alot of cam choices and I've done the research, I'd just like to know what the rest of you use.

42r is gonna be hella laggy for the street though. you would definatley want atleast a 2.3 on that bad boy... biggest i would go is 37r on the street but thats just me i dont have a need to go that fast on the streets haha

I would tend to think a 42r will take all the fun out of a street car

If you must go with that turbo I would def do a Twin Scroll 42r setup with a 2.3 so you eliminate some of the lag..

You shouldnt need a 42r tho you caould make pretty much the same numbers with a 40r minus the crazy lag.. personally i would do a 40r twinscroll setup with a 2.3!

Either way let us know what u go with and how it turns out!

Fullrace is doing that twin scroll 40R, or you can piece together your own kit to save some cash.

i disagree about doing a 2.3 with the 42r... it will help it spool up a little bit quicker, but a turbo that large needs at least a 9000-9500 rpm redline to fully use the power band it wants to deliver.

Keep it a 2.0 or if you want to get crazy do a 2.1 de-stroker. You will need a really good combination of bottom end components, Ditch the balance shafts (i would recommend AMS race BS, great quality regardless of price, and i had no BS installing mine), good bearings (im sure english racing wont have any problems building a motor for this setup). Have the head ported by somebody that knows what they are doing, high quality valvetrain is a MUST to survive really high rpm, 1mm oversized valves to match the porting. I would probably go with a bigger cam though... the kelford 272 is a nice cam (i have them as well), but i think something with a tad more lift and more "real" duration. Like the FP5r or tomei 280, GSC s3's ect...

keep us updated!!!

I drive my PT74dbb setup on the street quite a bit, basically same size turbo as a 42r and actually spools slower than a 42r would. Doesn't feel bad on the street off boost either, setup is a 10:1 2.0L motor .20 over, fully built head, Jun 272's, 4" exhaust. Only run it on E85 or VP110 right now, no pump as the minimum spring pressure is above what I want to run on 91oct.

I disagree with your setup almost down to every last detail. If hes wanting a 42r for the street but is afraid the lag will be too much. Then going with the biggest of the biggest isnt the way to go about it. Take myself. Smaller 42 (non BB) with a smaller a/r.....1.15. Take my cams for instance....stock, yes, stock. But only for a short while, as Comp 101200s are what im wanting (but i have been looking at the fp4r cams). The reason for the 272 style cam is simply for one reason. I dont want to loose all my mid range. Trust me, the turbo will take care of the 8k + rpm part. You dont need cams for that. Not for the street anyway. Jake Montgomery ran 9.13 @ 160 i believe on the 101200s, WITH A STOCK UNPORTED 1g Head. They do the trick.

Also, **** the port work, you dont need that **** either. Your head is fine the way it is, if anything, touch everything up, smooth the runners out (if u look, they are rough, well, my 13 year old design is). There should be a lip inside your intake runners on the head, take that out to free up a little more room (i dont have that done to mine, mine is an untouched, "2g" head). If he wants to go oversided valves, fine. But like i said, Jake Montgomery was on an untouched head, but if you feel that you need to do this and that to the head for power, go for it. Its your money, not mine.

Buying the destroker would be something i agree with. They are ****ing awesome, simple as that. I run just a 2 liter with Manley and ARP everything. ACL Bearings. Pretty simple really, no BS either.

SMIM is a must, as your doing nothing for that turbo (up top) without one. I run a stock one btw. Keep the stock TB if u like. Hell, i would. Well a 1g for me (60mm). Not sure what size yours is.

Just my opinion. Nothing wrong with a gigantic turbo for the top end and smaller **** for the mid range. A lot of people do the EXACT opposite. Smaller turbo for mid range, big **** for top end.

Im happy to tell you you will have peak torque at 5500rpm with a 1.01ar at sea level. With a 1.15ar will be at 5850 or later. Both twin scroll, well designed headders and on a Mivec head.

on a road car........
