[Problem] Louder turbo, and smell.
I just got back from the track today, my first time down there. After finished the last race, the turbo sounded a lot louder. Sounded normal (sort of) but a lot louder.
When I almost got home, (I was driving below 3K rpm, since I thought the turbo did a lot of work and most it's ever done, today. ) I opened my window on the highway since I was about to get off my exit and I smelled a smell I never smelt. I wasn't clutch, oil, or exhaust and there wasn't anyone in front of me.
I am 700miles away from my oil change, going to take it to Mitsubishi tomorrow and have them change my oil and check it out, if no one can help.
My car is Stock Evo 9 Mr, with ACT Heavy Duty Clutch.
EDIT:
Its the day after. I took it for a drive, turbo makes the same noise, smell is still there. Anyone got any ideas.
I am going to take it to the dealership Monday.
I am posting this video, its crappy quality and sideways since I recorded it on my phone. But the sound is 100%.
(I uploaded to googlevideo and youtube but the sound turned out to be horrible and scratchy)
I uploaded this to a file host, its only 15MB .mov format.

I never got a weird sound my the turbo on my Evo, but I did with my SR20'd 240 when I went up to about 4k feet from sea level. It just got really loud, but it was also taking in thinner air, so that could have been it.
Can't get to the video. Says you have to pay.

I could be wrong about the turbo, but if you watch the video somethings making a noise, that wasn't here the other day before I went down to the track.
You can hear it best when I am decelerating or when I have it out of gear.
Also you can hear it best .55-.56sec
Sounds like a airplane landing if you have no idea what sound to listen for.

+1 on the transfer case, especially if it is most noticeable on decel out of gear! Sounds like a plane landing? Transfer case! If the car is out of gear and it is still noticeable on decel has to do with the driveline not the turbo. Smell could be from a cooked set of gears that have over heated.

check your fluid in your tranny and T-case.
it could have been a little low, and heat kills it. and that could be the sound youre hearing(low on fluid= more gear noise) and the smell(burnt fluid and now little to no fluid).
doesnt sound like the turbo at all.
also, have you checked your tires out?
to me it sounds like your tires have either separated or you picked up some garbage on them from the track.
its weird because the sound increases with vehicle speed and not so much gear/rpm speed.
