I'm interested in the Tomei 260 and 270 poncams. I want to know if they're still smogable or not. Power gain, streetability, etc...

And how would the HKS 272's rate as well.

I dont want to lose too much down low. And I want a REALLY strong midrange.

Besides, I wouldnt mind getting a power figure closer to 300whp... currently sitting at 260whp...

What results do you get when you start mixing cams? Like a popular mix I see is 264/272. What kind of results do you see from this pair compared to 264/264?

search you will find answers.

but let me tell you now, don't waste money on hks 264, HKS 272s are perfect for daily drive, won't loose lowend.
why are you trying to compare comp 280 to hks 264? these 2 are totally different animal.
People are ditching their hks 264 b/c they are weak

I have been using HKSs 264i/272e for several years.
Not weak at all. Make alot of mid and top end power. Nice idle too.

He may have spooled faster but who pulled who? Just to put my 2 cents in.... I have 272s and they idle awesome.

I agree with the 272's... I used them with my full bolt on car and stock turbo and the car made 383, I added the AMS VSR and the AMS 50 trim and the 272's made 505 whp and 475 torque!

I would either go with a different setup or go with the 272's. I had a custom flashed ecu and they idled fine.

I really think there are better choices out there then the hks 264's if you want to go smaller

My car was faster, and it was because I came into power sooner, on a stock turbo the top end is nearly the same.

These are all subjective results though. For the most part I think HKS 264's and 272's are about equal. But by virtue of design the 264's shift the powerband down lower in the RPM compared to 272's. More duration allows the intake valve to be open longer (to the point where the piston is moving back up the cylinder) and pull more air into the cyclinder IF the RPM's are high enough to create kinetic energy for the air charge. At lower RPM's the long duration hurts you because the piston pushes air OUT of the cyclinder.

For a stock turbo car looking to maximize spoolup 264's are the goods.

Here's a plot from the OG AMS DSM cam test, the 264's make more torque then 272's, spool better and don't give up that much on the top end.

Does that graph compair stock to 264's? Or 272's to 264's?

Regards,
Alex

That graph is between 264's and 272's. All the graphs are on AMS's website.
