Shifter cables popping out of the console assembly...
Anyone else experience this issue with the 2 cables popping out of the shifter assembly.
There are 2 black square things that press into the console and hold the cable still...But, when driving on friday, it seemes to constantly pop out causing shifting issues...
Is there supposed to be two retention clips of some sort? All I see are the 2 solid plastic pieces, I was expecting there to be metal clips that slid in and locked it down or something, I could be wrong...
Any thoughts and suggestions appreciated!

i haven't looked at mine is a very long time....but i dont recall clips being there...only in engine bay.....i think they were just in a certain way as to not move...but i'd have to check again..hopefully someone will remember and chime in....or possibly look at a how to change bushings..or install short shifter, and you can see a shot of what it looks like
You're talking about the very ends of the cables that slides onto the pins of the shifter??? On the very end of the shifter cable, if I remember correctly, there are supposed to be cotter pins to keep the cable on the shifter.
Or are you talking about this? About 12'' or so down the cable the cables themselves are clipped into their holders. As far as I can remember, there should be metal clips on those as well, just like the clips you find in the engine bay. But I could be mistaken. It's been three years since I was in there.
Hang on, I'll check the CAPS program for a diagram.

Hi - Not the very ends, I am talking about 12" down where both the cables attach to the white plastic shifter assembly base.
CAPS would be great....If there are pins like underhood, then I am missing those.
Also, seems as though my shifter base attaches to the car tunnel only in 3 places? I am seeing a 4th point, but no plastic for it to attach to? I am assuming the base was all cut up for some reason or something?

I think this will do. Read the section on "Transaxle Control." It says there's some kind of pin. Which could be true, but the bad news is you may have to buy a new set of shifter cables. There's no part available for anywhere around where you're talking about. And if someone hacked up the shifter base, you may want to buy a new one of them as well.
Keep in mind that I couldn't find anything exclusively for the IX MR. This is only for the 5 speed, but I highly doubt they made drastic changes to the general assembly of the different components between the two.

EDIT - I looked at page 22-A11, I assume you mean #4 in the illustration - I will look tonight and confirm!
Thanks, I have an VIII GSR now and I didnt want to change my name and lose all feedback etc...
