To E85 or not to E85. That is the question
I had to buy a new clutch when switched to E85. I made 415/400 with the cossie M3's at 29 psi. With the same mods on 91 I was only making 365/350 so E85 gets my vote for sure, not to mention that it's only 2.99 per gallon which even when you factor in the slightly less mpg, you are still saving money.
Heres the low down. Its a 2003 Evo 8, FULL bolt ons, IX turbo, Cosworth M3 cams, blah, blah, blah, u get the picture. I put down 330whp/327trq on VIVIDS MUSTANG DYNO on 91 pump gas @24 psi holding 21.5 to redline in around 100 degree heat. To most of u that dont know, this is a very low reading dyno, that would translate this same power into approx. 370whp on your typical dynojet. Now heres my question. Ive been wanting to switch to E85 now for the longest time, and have been getting mixed opinions about it. What Im worried about is my clutch. Its the stocker.....
I know ill need one eventually, but will the car be able to hold an expected gain of 40+whp for long? Im lookin around 420+whp(dynojet) @30 psi when everything is all said and done....... This is not a drag race car or anything, but am pretty concerned about my clutch not lasting me more than just a bit. What should I do? Go all out and tune it for 30 psi and just cross my fingers, or mildly tune for around 27 psi and stay on the safe side and still gain some great power????
ANY advice is appreciated. Thanks ppl
