EVO topend = gh3y??

Does everyone elses evo feel like it sucks after 4500 or rpms topend? I am coming from an SRT-4 and the EVOs topend feels like crap...am I the only one that feels this way? everything else is may be that i am used to the torque distributed through 2 wheels instead of 4??

Maybe your butt dyno is miscalibrated? I drove a stock SRT-4 and it was gutless.

Welp, doesnt the SRT put down like 220 to the front wheels? That's more than a stock EVO to all four wheels.

It is pretty weak in the top end until you make a few changes.

Sounds like you may need a few mods... mine is an interstate terror, easily spinning up to 140 or so if I am not paying attention and getting aggressive...

What are the drag coefficiencts of the cars in question. Power is such a cheap fix is most cases.

Lighter weight and better aerodynamics can yield much faster, quicker cars and guess what you all of a sudden get better gas mileage, handling and braking.

I still am baffled how the sport compact car craze and it's recognition of the amazing qualities of being lightweight are worth more than power has transformed into the thing it was opposed to, and that is big fat cars with bad aero using lots of fuel to make power to make up for deficiencies.

The Civic CRX was so awesome becuase it is light. Lotus Elise wow.

I'd like to see a <2800 lb Evo. That would really be amazing more so than an extra 250hp, Better braking, Handling, Gas Mileage, Aceleration. Throw in better aero and you could pick up an extra 15mph top end easy.

well i personally can see where you are coming from. i test drove a srt-4 and to me it felt like it just wanted to keep pulling past redline. in a stock evo after that initial torque surge if really does feel like it falls flat. get a boost controller and you will quickly eliminate this problem.

kool so I just wanted to see if it was just me or not, because my car feels like it falls flat on its face...the SRT didnt feel that way, but this could be the difference of 2 wheel and 4 wheel distribution.

Below 80 mph, mostly engine characteristics, above 100 mph, mostly chasis and aero characteristics.

Yeah taking a look at dynos on the stock evo, hp pretty much falls flat past 4500 and torque does the same thing. Get a ECU flash or boost controller and open up the top end! I got the WORKS ecu flash and it made a world of difference to the top end. Pulls strong all the way to redline

Below is a dyno graph overlaying stock evo compared with ECU flash, throttle body and muffler delete. The ECU upgrade is responsible for 95% of that power increase, the throttle body and muffler delete maybe gave the car 4 more hp on top of the ECU

I second what caymandriver said. It's normal to feel what you feel in your car after 5000. A simple thing like the Works reflash will solve that for you.
