Has anyone put turbo timer where the clock is? How deep is that space?
I just bought an HKS Type 1 turbo timer and was thinking about taking out the stock clock and mounting it there as it is nearly the same size. Has anyone else tried this? How does the trim around the clock come out and does the clock separate from the rest of the bezel cleanly? How deep is it back there for anyone who has had those pieces off? I will look in to this idea tomorrow a little more closely, but I do think that it would look pretty clean up there. I am about to put an Eclipse 8443 in to replace the stock head unit and it has a clock so I am not worried about looseing the factory clock. If that does not work out where has everyone else mounted their turbo timers?
Not hard to do and you have a good amount of room back there. The clock assemby comes right off the panel you just have to fit the timer in there and make a small trim panle if there is a gap.

I ended up putting mine there, it was not much of a problem. I wrote up a how-to article a while back but someone went through the How Tos/Installations forum and wiped a bunch of stuff out. It is not very hard though if you are at all mechanically inclined.
I had my hks type 1 there to begin with but I ended up taking it out and replacing the panel. I could never get it to fit flush like the clock did and always thought it looked a little funny.
The only way I could get it flush was to cut a metal bracket back there and I didn't want to do that. Also that timer is very bright and blinded the hell out of me at night.

I bought my evo used and it had the HKS timer mounted in the side of the dash compartment (under that panel on the left side) so you couldn't see it or get to it or adjust it or anything. I rerouted the whole deal to the ash-tray. I don't own a digital camera, but I'll try to get some pics on here at some point 'cause it's pretty slick.
Had to use a grinder on both sides of the turbo timer to narrow it (actually took off entire side of plastic covering and then closed openings with packing tape to prevent dust in the electronics. Took ashtray out and cut the back/bottom of it off....leaving the hinged cover attached but gave me room to slide the turbo timer against the back (angled properly, in line with the front) and epoxy'd the turbo timer to the ashtray.
Now, I flip open my ashtray...still have a half an ashtray to put stuff in if I want, backed by the "underside" of the turbo timer...and the turbotimer face is in just the right angle to see and adjust depending on how I've been driving, just under the lid....then I flip the lid shut again and it's gone. It's pretty slick, but damn...it was a bit of work getting it to fit.

here is how it works. Not for the squeemish though. Takes a dremmel and a little shaving of the plastic housing on the dash. I love it though. I always wear a watch, so no clock=no biggy..... https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=71759
