Can a combustion chamber be welded?

So I snapped a timing belt and couple valves hit the pistons and snapped the valves. It created a few pretty big dings, or more like dents in the combustion chambers on the head. I'm wondering if that's fixable or not? Is it possible to fill in the dents and then smooth it out? Or would that not hold up? If not it's no big deal since I have another head, I'm just wondering if I should toss it or not.

i'm sure you can weld it and smooth it out but then u would have to make sure all the chambers are the same volume..seems like alot of work just to save a few bucks...

Well it's a ported head, and although I can just port another one I have a lot of time invested into this one so it's not just a couple bucks. Making sure the volume is the same isn't a big deal at all really, I'm just concerned about if it will hold up. I'll give headgames a ring, they are great guys over there and do awesome work so I have no problems sending them my business if it's fixable.. Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.

Can be fixed for sure, but the catch is it has to be done by a very skilled machinist. I work with a guy who does stuff like this. (I'm a tool and die maker) I have even seen this guy weld up pistons and machine them back in to spec and then have them last in drag racing. He races an 8 sec mopar. You are just at the mercy of the machinst in a case like this so if you try to fix it be sure you know the reputation of the machine shop.

I work in a world were anything can fixed, but at what cost or trouble?

yes, you can have a head welded up / repaired.

take it to a decent welder. we used to have old nissan heads welded up. you could use a sharpie & he would weld right up to it & the sharpie didnt vanish!

the heads historicaly cracked in a certain area, after they cracked, he welded them, then they would last! Crazy.

depending on where the combustion chamber needs repair, you may want to have the seats replaced in that comb. chmbr.
