EVo 8 Wastegate Actuator vs Evo 9 Wastegate Actuator

Is there a difference in stock wastegate actuators between an 8 turbo and 9 turbo? I imagine there is.

This weekend friends and I put on a IX turbo with 10.5 hotside and o2 housing on my 04 evo 8. What we didn't have was a IX stock wastegate, so we used the 8 wastegate. Even with the adjustments to the arm, the boost spikes, and is inconsistent. Initially we lowered the MBC to wastegate boost settings. We were able to get to 15-16lbs of wastegate pressure rather consistently. Then we set the mbc to the desired 23lbs..soemthing it was previously tuned for. What I found out the last two days is that it's still boosting erratically...and it doesn't matter what gear you are pulling from and how much i turn down the mbc.....just erratic. When the mbc was on it's lowest setting, we were boosting to 15-17lbs consistently. but once the mbc was introduced, I can't seem to keep the desired 23lbs consistent

I know its the wastegate...but before I make that leap in to buying a new stock IX wastegate, I wanted to make sure with the evo community.

Inputs?

thx!

A 8 wastegate will not work on a 9 turbo the arm is too short and will keep too much tension on the wastgate thus keeping it shut and make you boost too high.

Yeah. We tried to make adjustments to the arm but like you said the boost levels were just inconsistent.

thanks

So if I ordered a new 9 turbo wastgate actuator, it would already be preloaded? So all I'd have to do is attach it to the bracket and flapper and I'm good to go?

Order a new IX wastegate actuator, install it, and you'll be set.

If you just slap it on then it won't have any preload and you'll have sluggish spoolup. It will however bolt right up. The bracket will bolt onto the compressor housing with two bolts, and then you rotate the turnbuckle on the threaded end of the actuator rod until the hole just slips onto the peg of the flapper valve's pivot arm.

At that point you are at base wastegate pressure, which is about 11 to 12 PSI(zero preload). To add preload you'll need to pull the actuator rod off the pivot arm again and rotate it so that it shortens. Rotate it three full turns. It'll be a little harder to pull up onto the pivot arm, but this should give you about 14 to 17 PSI preloaded. Take care.

For the price of a stock IX actuator http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...Lancer-TurboHW as an eg, you could look into a Forge wastegate actuator. Eg only: http://importimageonline.com/imagepr...oducts_id/1294.

Maybe this may have better boost adjustability for you & is built very well.

The difference is the length in the arm. that is all.

I have a question. We just installed a 02 dump on my wifes VIII. But the flapper is staying open. What can I do to fix this issue. Would it mean the turbo is done, or the wastegate might be bad causing the flapper to stay open. Immediate help is needed. Please PM me. Thanks
