Question Checking "service engine soon" light.

So my check engine light came on today randomly. I actually haven't driven my car hard at all today so it was very odd. I was wondering if there was some way to check the code using EvoScan, ECUflash, or using some other method. I dont have a obdII reader so I hope I dont need one. thanks in advance.

You should be able to check CELs with EvoScan. I bought a cheap OBD2 scanner to check codes so I wouldnt have to hook the laptop everytime.

Is it the "Service Engine Soon" light OR is it the check engine light? You seem to be referring to both and they serve two different purposes?

Check your manual or search on here. There's a way to reset it. All it means is that you hit a maintence interval that has been predetermined by the ECU based on your mileage. There's nothing wrong with your car.

Go here:

http://www.aktivematrix.com/forum/dl...gory&cat_id=13

Create a username and password, and download the scantech file - its an OBD scanner that works with the tactrix cable and laptop.

Thats what I thought.

Good news is that I disconnected my battery and reconnected to clean the light, so that seems to have worked.

We'll see how long it lasts.
