I guess you can see my question from the title... im trying to sell my buddy my stock 16g turbo off my evo 8.. and he has a few questions about whether or not its a direct bolt on...

and if its not a direct bolt on... what is needed to make this upgrade??

not a direct bolt on....the turbos are flipped around...he would have to make a custom downpipe, custom intercooler piping, oil lines and water lines.

DSMs use a single scroll, round entry. EVOs use a twin scroll, asymmetrical entry. Neither of which is remotely close to a T3 flange.

As for bolting an EVO turbo to a DSM, it's been done a couple different ways. One way is to use an EVO manifold, which bolts right to the DSM head. Unfortunately, the turbo will hit the block and requires a 1"+ spacer and longer manifold studs. You also have to relocate the alternator to the rear of the block where the AC compressor is, and possibly eliminate power steering.

The other option is to flip it so the compressor faces the pass. side and have a custom manifold made. This would be far from cost effective since a divided, one-off tubular manifold would be approaching $1k. The much cheaper, simpler solution is to just use the EVO3 16g, which is a direct bolt-on makes just as much power, and spools lightning fast.
