Rpms Jump?

Okay So here is my issue. Keep in mind this only happens in 3rd and 4th gear. 1-2-5 are fine. So when I go WOT in 3rd or 4th gear my rpms jump then fall back down. Lets say I punch it at 4grand in 3rd gear. The rpms jump up to about 6 then fall right back to 4 and hold steady. Now to add to that when I get back up to 6grand I lose all boost for a second. I hear my BOV and the car stops pulling. Then less then a second later I have boost back and it starts to pull through redline.

Any ideas?

This might be hard to read. If it is just let me know and I can explain things differently.

Your clutch is slipping. Start looking for a new one.

It is probably your clutch.
Have you ever replaced the stock clutch before? How many miles are on the current clutch?

When the RPM's climb and then fall back down, it usually means its your clutch slipping.

I thought it may be the clutch. But why would this only happen in 3rd and 4th? I can go WOT in 1st 2nd and 5th with no slipping at all.

Try going WOT in 5th going 30-40mph and see if it slips.

hmm this is a little odd...if your clutch was slipping it would get easier the higher the gear you are in...it's weird that it only does it in 3rd and 4th....but from what your saying is happening it sounds exactly like a slipping clutch

you could do what i've been told to do to test and see if your clutch is slipping.....start your car and pull your e-brake, put it in 3rd gear and pop the clutch...they say if your car stalls out your clutch is still holding up but if it keeps running your clutch is slipping...not the most accurate test but its worth a shot

Sounds like your clutch is slipping to truely test it out you need to get high in rpms which is where it is most likely to slip while also being under load.

Losing your boost is because your DV cant hold shut, dumps, then shuts and then you pick back up again. Probably feels like you hit a wall when it opens up right? You may need to upgrade your spring or due to the colder weather adjust your tune. ( Dont know whaere you live but I live in FL and we have had a cold front come through and I am boosting noticably higher which in most peoples case would cause the loss in boost.)

Yes It feels like I hit a wall then it picks back up. I have a HKS SSQV ( I know I know bad BOV for an Evo). I thought that it might be over boosting but I turned the boost all the way down on the MBC and its still doing it. Maybe Faulty MBC?

guys and girls, none of you heard of "throttle hang", why all you just telling "inflation" that his clutch is slipping? if his clutch is slipping it won't be able to handle 1st 2nd wot pull.

do search under throttle hang, these people only have one answer for you, i give you another possibility.

I think you might be headed in the right direction fugiwara. I noticed that in 1st and 2nd gear its very sluggish and I have to push the pedal much more then i used to to get going. (Rpms don't spike like the clutch would be slipping). I'm thinking its something to do with the throttle body.

You should be able to tell what is going on with your car by listening and feeling what is going on when you get in boost. If the car starts to pull as boost builds and then slips and rpm's go up, your clutch is slipping. If your clutch is just starting to slip YOU WILL NOT be able to tell in 1st 2nd 3rd or 4th. Then over time it will wear even more and you should start to be able to feel it slip in 4th then 3rd and so on.
