Grinding on fifth !!! Synchros ???

Hi i recently got a little grinding sound when i shift to fifth gear on high revs ... I went to the dealer for the warranty but i got shut down cause i didnt have original tires ... they said it was the synchros on fifth and they would have to do a job that would cost $1,500..... is there a cheaper way to fix this .... what can i do ..... it only happens on high revs and people tell me to double clutch ... but i dont know exactly how to do it .... any suggestions ???

Go to a different dealer! My car is in now for third gear syncro. That stock tire thing is BS. I'm not using stockers and mine was covered.

I would call Mitsu customer service about that. My local rep told me that I should replace mine with something less sticky so I wouldn't have to spend so much money on tires. He said he would never deny a warranty over tires, as long as they didn't show that the owner was abusing the car.

So i guess if you live in a freezing temp state/area your warranty is expired because you chaged out your "max performance summer tire" for some snow tires...

that guy is a joke...

Yea thats total bullcrap. You can't drive those advans in the winter, hell, I remember when my brother picked up his 03. They had us watch a video about the car. And I'm pretty sure it said not to use the stock tires in the winter...

The sticker on your driver's door tells you to change the stock tires to something else in the winter!!! duh!!

tell them that!!! how can you let them fool you like that? Factory even tells you to change tires for proper weather.

Don't tell them that! Now that will void your warranty! They say that any timed event voids the drivetrain warranty. But hey, they'll still fix your radio!

Doesn't it state somewhere that they reccomend NOT using the stock tires in adverse weather? I think it's on one of the silver stickers that they put inside on the driver's door.

It is absolute BULL**** if they deny your warranty over tires. It has to be the DIRECT CAUSE of the problem for the warranty to be denied.

Go over their head. Call the regional manager.

Dude go to a different dealer. When the salesman handed me the keys to my car he told me to change the tires when I can because they wouldn't last through winter. UNLESS you meant both the rims and tires. I've heard anything other than stock rims will void warranty. Also, $1500 is an insane price.
