TurboXS Utec

I don't know if this has been talked about yet, but I caught a blurb about their prototype UTEC for the evo8 on their website.. anyone have any more definitive info?

It seems to have many of the features I've been looking for.. However so does the Vishnu Xede (now that it was revised) they both appear to be very similar.

I'd love to dump my MBC and S-AFC and have complete ECU control over those functions.

Their Evo UTEC is making 30whp reliably in beta testing with no other mods on the car. Its going to be a very good piggyback, quite similar to the Xede.

There will be so many like toys and add-on from various mfgs. With something like the Uted and Xede it would come down to customer support and service after purchase. Whomever prevails here will have the honor of my business.

Definitely a good point.. The pricing between the two looks to be similar, and Up until these units became available, I was seriously considering a much more expensive standalone unit. Its one of those things, in order to go fast, you have to prepare wisely and not just throw money at the problem. At the moment I'm doing the typical inexpensive upgrades and paying attention to details and making astounding improvements. However the ability to have this kind of control over the engine is key, along with getting the power to the ground.

don't hold your breath, AEM is known to release products very slowly. just look at the WRX AEM stand alone. the web site says 2-3 weeks for the past 2 years. there are many options out there so just do the search and find the one that fits your needs best. if you want to talk to someone who really knows a lot about this stuff, than give Adam from Z1 a call. he is a great guy to talk to and he really knows his ECUs

I already know Adam.. His shop installed my exhaust system And actually AEM told me 3-6 weeks in April.. Well, its quite a bit longer than that.. All I'm looking for is flexibility for any future mods I make, so its really going to come down to the tools that do the job.

Hehe - Hi Jack

gldenchild and I know each other well too - we're good friends

I would not be surprised to see the AEM out soon though, given that the platform, its based on has been in existence for awhile for the Evo's, so hopefully it wil work out

We'll definately be supporting the Utec though - if its as good and useful for the Evo as it was for the WRX, it will be the benchmark, especially at the intended pricepoint.

Adam

I'm hoping to get my hands on a Utec or AEM asap.. Then a clutch upgrade.. Then you'll see my evil plans hatched..

I have 2 close friends with Utecs in their WRXs, a very nice system, tuned very easily. There is no need to purchase additional software to tune it, Windows hyperterminal and a serial cable is all that is needed. The only thing we don't like is the boost control, it can be a pain to tune. I recommend using a manual boost controller along with the Utec. After seeing the AEM EMS in person and tuned, I don't like it much, it's confusing and takes a lot of time to tune.

the reason why the AEM takes a lot of time to tune and looks more complex is because it is a stand alone ECU unlike the UTEC which is a piggyback.

Actually, I was speaking of just tuning in general, as in say there were 2 dynos side by side with an identical car on each one except one has a Utec and the other has a EMS. It would take longer to do the same thing with the EMS because of the, well in my opinion, complex interface. Maybe it's just my friends and I that feel this way. Maybe other people really like the EMS interface. If you want to find out if you would like to use the EMS, then you can download a demo version here: http://www.aempower.com/ems/AEM%20DEMO.zip

i have used AEM stand alones many times before and i find them to be relativly user friendly. of course the UTEC is much easier but so is the S-AFC.
