Intake wars!

I'm trying to decide on a new intake for my car, but I can't place my finger on which one is best (so far) for our cars. I've heard a lot of good things about the HKS kit and so far, pretty positive feedback from the AEM. Does anyone have any dyno sheets/comparative information on 'em and any feedback on them?

I can only compare Short Ram to Cold Air. Short RAM sounds really nice, but a lot of them are crappy and universal. It didnt do anything for power, but gave me some nice engine noise i desperately needed. The AEM coldair intake was a lot better though. It gave a deeper noise at about 3k RPMs and more power than a short ram, but it kickes in a little after you get off the line.

Overall i would say i like the AEM because of style, reliability and performace.

Short RAM would be more of affordable and nice sound.

Don't forget about our intake kit. It's a 3" SS polished mandrel bent intake for $175.

I would imagine any intake that comes with the larger MAS pipe (Read: AEM) would be the best value.

I have the HKS and I love it. HKS probably has the freest flowing filter out there. I had an AEM Cold Air on my Type-R and I alwasy had to worry about driving in the rain, so for me a couple ponies is not worth it.

Honestly, it doesn't matter. All you want to make sure of is that the thing won't fall apart on you (like an HKS filter can). After that, they are all pretty much the same in terms of power output.

1 or 2hp doesn't really matter when you have a turbocharged engine. Your power levels from day to day will vary by 3 times that much.

No CAI avail for the evo ...

If i remember correctly, someone tested filtration on a bunch of aftermarket filters, and that HKS came in dead last!

Thanks EVO 08.

Our complete kit is only $275. It comes with a mandrel bent polished stainless steel (or gloss black powder coated) inlet pipe, all the couplings and a kick *** funnel ram style air filter. It fits correctly and flat in the car. It also eliminates the fitting that is no longer used when you switch to a manual or electronic boost controller and the fittings that fills the intercooler with oil from the valve cover hose.

We made 6 hp to the wheels just with the filter. We did not dyno just the MAS pipe.

david not sure what kind of difference it makes but it might be nice to offer a heat shield for your intake, sort of like what the AEM has. I had one on my IS 300 and it did make a difference.
just a thought
