Clutch
Im looking for a new clutch and there is no way in hell that i can pay $1500 for an Exedy so ive been looking at other options. I do not plan going over 400whp due to my 6spd Transmission. Anyways I've been looking at alternatives and i was wondering if anyone has had expiriance with the following clutches.
Exedy Stage 2. Is this a good clutch for a daily driver?
ACT Heavy Duty. with a streetlite flywheel and the street disc.. (heard there are some lock out problems)
ClutchMasters Stage 2?

CenterForce?

I also found this on Ebay..

Also does the clutch differ for the MR ?
Any Info Would be great. I need a clutch and im on a budget..

Check out this clutch poll with almost 700 votes: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=126768
Even with high HP the ACT HDSS stacks up pretty good for a daily driver. No loud noises, smooth engagement, 500ftlbs of torque capacity, SFI cert. No it is not the ideal race clutch. We have other options for that. If you want something streetable and quick shifting, also consider our solid center street disc. What you trade off in that case is increased gear noise and possibly disc spline life.
The lockout issue has happened on basically every clutch except maybe Tilton carbon/carbon. It is mainly a matter of correct adjustment and preventing the clutch from overheating and warping. Once warped, the disc has more difficulty releasing especially at high rpm.

BTW, I believe the springs he referred to that failed were the older Exedy type before we started making our own discs.

+1 for the ACT from a guy who does 40-60 clutch dumps per year during the autocross season. They're extremely durable, do not introduce NVH like some others can, retain near-stock pedal effort, and are definitely on the more affordable side of the scale. I've never experienced a lockout with mine.

I'm running the ACT HDSS and It's great. Stock like engagement, and is rated plenty high on torque for 400hp (and whatever torque you can give it at 400hp) as long as you don't slip the hell out of it.
i would say avoid the exedy single(not hyper) at all costs for dd. it is noisy as hell and the pedal is pretty heavy. i have just installed the act mb7hdss in my car with another gruppe-s flywheel. i have just now put the break in mileage(heating up and cooling down process is all) on it and will be getting a new tune next weekend. i am praying it does not give me these damn uncorrectable lock out issues like others have had in the past/present.
i tend to associate a stiffer pedal with more load capacity, but this is not accurate. the act i have now is a near stock pedal, and as long as it will hold the ft lbs specified and not lock me out i will be a happy camper

Just go for the Streetlite ACT combo pack sold on lancershop.com which includes the streetlite clutch kit and the streetlite flywheel. The price should be $767.95+shipping. My clutch on my '06 MR went out at about 18,000 miles and I replaced it with that combo pack. I have no regrets on the clutch type, despite many people complaining about the "high-rpm lock-out problem." I haven't experienced it and I have no regrets. It will be hard to find a better price than lancershop.com and it will be very hard to find a better clutch for the money you pay. Most Evo owners replace there clutch with ACT because it is a very good clutch at a reasonable price. All the best!!! Last edited by nawaz; Dec 16, 2008 at 11:55 AM.
exedy twin hd! i was gonna go with the ACT HDSS & streetlite but decided to go with the exedy and i'm so glad i did! never been able to shift so fast! pedal feels like stock! great setup for sure!
We are the largest Evo Stocking ACT source on here. I can get you a killer deal on the MB7-HDSS and Streetlite flywheel. That is by far the most popular clutch kit upgrade out for the evo right now.
