Recommended Oil Weights for Evo 8

Hi,

I have a 2003 Evo 8 that is due for oil changes. I will be using Royal Purple 0W40 for the engine during winter (it gets cold up here in Canada).

What are the required oil weights for the diff and the transmission gear oil?

Please be very specific.

I would also appreciate a suggestion on recommended oil brand for the diff and tranny.

Thanks,
P.

For the T-Case and Rear Diff, use Mitsubishi Diqaueen, and for the tranny use AMSOIL MTF(75w-90), BG II Synchromesh, Pennz Synchromesh, Redline..

For engine oil, I'd recommend something other than Royal Purple (there's alot of proof there's better oil out there for the price).

AMSOIL 0w-30 works wonders in cold and hot weather, I had an oil analysis at 6200 miles and it came out perfect.
Redline and Eneos both make better oils that Royal Purple

Search for fluid types, this question is asked all the time, and there's plenty of answers.

Tranny 75W85. Diff 90W.

AMSOIL MTG is the recommended fluid, not MTF...

A 30 wgt is recommended engine oil, not a 40 wgt...

The recommendation on the AMSOIL SSO is spot on... it has a Pour Point of -60

5 Qts SSO 0W-30 for the engine
1 EAO-46 Oil Filter
3 Qts MTG for the Tanny
2 Qts SVG for the TC and Diff

I can set you up on a Preferred Customer account so you can buy at Dealer Cost. We have 2 Canadian Warehouse.

The EAO filter is rated for 17,500 miles... which is a bit overkill and over priced unless you plan to run that high. I used a WIX filter and my oil analysis showed that I could run up to 7500 miles safely. Take that into consideration.

Actually, the EA Oil Filter is rated to 25,000 miles but when using the SSO oil which has a 35K Interval in most applications (EVO's Excluded) it is recommended to change at 17.5K or half life of the oil.

Seeing that is what I do on most of my vehicles and my work van has almost 345K on it, I don't think it is overkill by any means.

I also sell the WIX Filter for those that just want to run a decent Filter which the WIX is a good filter. It is rated at 19 Micron Nominal (50 %) for the filter used on the EVO and the AMSOIL EA Series is Conservatively Rated at 15 Micron Absolute and has also been tested to be able to extend oil change intervals by just using the filter.

It all comes down to what you want and how good you want it.

Oil, is the lifeblood of your engine, the Filter, is the Kidney that keeps it clean.

I use the EA Series filters on everything I own including lawn equipment and my generator. I use the SSO and EA Filter on my Lancer as well..

Winter times I run 0W40 Mobil 1 Full Synthetic
T Case I use DisQueen Gear Oil. Change it every 15K miles since a gallon is $75 and will last you 50k miles.
Transmission I use RedLine Full Synthetic MT-90, or you can use Amsoil 75W90 which is also good.
