jmelocik you are correct the gold foil in my OP is the common type the real stuff comes on rolls of 6"wide, the common stuff in 28" wide, and the silver in 15" wide.

If the real stuff came in a 12" x 15" square, it would cost around 120.00.

Dave unless your material came in a 6" wide roll it is the common stuff. If it did you have about 250.00 in material there.

scorke, take a look at DS-03evo's engine bay...header radiant heat + cam sensor + time = fail. The heat shield will provide relief, the tape will improve that relief. Reflecting a minium of 96% of the radiant heat from any electronic component will add reliability and service life. After testing the silver tape on heat shielding for a 40,000.00 electronics package for a race car yesterday I'd say it's worth it.

Indy,

A friend who owns a solar company told me about this awhile back:

http://www.reflectechsolar.com/product.html

Is that similar to what you are discussing?

It looks similar. I will get the supply, availability, and cost info posted in the A.M.

I would also be interested in seeing the silver product, we have been using gold for some time now and would love to see a cheaper alternative. Thanks Indy.

If you want it in smaller (non-commercial) quantities, you can buy more than enough for one car (2 ft x 5 ft) for $69 here: http://home.att.net/~cleardomesolar/...lexpanels.html

I do love the DB tests. He get's curious about things, and instead of talking actually goes out and get's it done. They are definitely big contributions to the knowledge base on EvoM.

Contact Mark Meko at www.earlsindy.com. They supply most of the Indy Car, NHRA, and ALMS teams here in Indianapolis. Tell him you saw this thread on EvoM and they can supply as little or as much of this material as you need. This way you will be assured you are getting the genuine article not another copy. Also they carry t-bolt clamps, coupler hoses among other things you might need.

Even the more common gold foil you can buy (the 28" wide stuff) does a GREAT job for the price.

I've wrapped some rubber radiator hoses that would have normally melt due to proximity of a header, and it did a great job of protecting them.
