If your gonna get the Megan get the one thats a copy of the Tanabe DP.
I don't know all of the facts, and I DO NOT recommend the flex unit on an ACD car. However, I can't for the life of me see how a downpipe could be "colliding" with a transfer case as the downpipe is bolted to the engine, which is bolted to the tranny, which is bolted to the transfer case, which they all move as ONE unit! Now I have seen them "rub" holes in aluminum from vibration.

I'd need to know more about this particular case. I'd esp like to see pics of where the DP was contacting the x-fer case without the DP installed.

Zeus, this was over a year ago. We dont have any of the original parts anymore as everything has been repaired / replaced. The driver reported hearing a banging sound during launching / shifting. The banging sound existed before and after the tranny had been repaired. We replaced the DP and it went away. Remember, The DP is connected to the chassis of the car as well, when the engine tilts back during acceleration this forces the DP into the case.

Honestly, were not 100% that the culprit was the DP (it was probably a combination of a number of things), but we do know that the old style does not fit ACD equipped cars with adequate clearance and was hitting / rubbing / touching the case as can be seen in the photos that I've already posted. I'm not bashing Megan as this was more of a bad parts choice for a IX MR and when the owner installed it he should have recognized that it didnt fit properly in the first place.

Fair enough... just could not wrap my head around the rest of the system being mounted that solidly. Even with poly hangars.

Like I said, I didn't have the facts...

Sorry to hear that. That is why this whole thread is here. 05+ = no flex section.

Yes, the down pipes using the flex section were not great for the ACD transmissions, or compatible with many other cat backs, and/or delete pipes. That's why Megan created a new downpipe that fit the ACD cars, and was freer flowing without the flex section. There were a few less than honest people pushing the flex'd pipes on innocent customers due to the higher profit margin. Even after being told by Megan that it was not a sound practice. I personally still run one of the first run flex sectioned down pipes on my own Evo VIII non-ACD car, from back in 04'. Never got around to putting the newer version on my own ride as it doesn't have the ACD problems.

I've been doing a lot of reading lately about Megan Racing products and I'm definitely impressed. Thanks for good info in this thread. My Evo is liking tax season this year.
