Tapping tubular mainfold
Hi, I think you may need to tap it into your downpipe to get the most reliable readings. Depending on where you tap your manifold, you may not get accurate readings from all 4 cylinders. The downpipe is best.
Yes, you will need to weld a bung on. You need to find the right drill bit to use, and make sure you don't drill it too large for the bung.
I believe the correct way to do it on the car is with the car running?? Not exactly sure, but I think the exhaust pressure blows all the shavings out so that they do not enter the exhaust stream.
If you take the mani off the car, this obviously is not a problem.
Oh, and I've always used the runner from cyl #2. Don't know why, but always worked fine.

Go with a bung
tapped down pipe is always going to read comparatively low temps, but of course you can compensate for low temp reading and still determine if you're running hot.
I would take the mani off if you're going to tap it, sucking any matal particles in your turbo is super risky and not worth the risk.
I've also seen guys tap the manifold without the car running and then using a magnetic tipped screwdriver to accumulate all the metal flakes.

i did a bunch of reading before i tapped my stocker and i read cyl 2. And maybe it runs the "hottest" not necessarily the "leanest". I also read #2 wasn't used for water/meth like i said.
