Aluminum rods

Billet 150mm goodness...and 162mm hawtness

Coming to an engine soon

After doing ALOT of street driving/torture testing, there is no doubt that aluminum rods will hold up even without an oil cooler. Approx 15,000 miles of street and track time (including running 10s on a stock turbo) without an oil cooler and they are still good. Stretch was still minimal when we had them checked. Anyone else with Alloy rods and mileage that wants to share/talk tech?

Aaron

no experiance but this is a quote from mazworx about their sr20 motor "This aluminum rod has been used and no longer is good. It comes out of our 1400hp SR motor in the Drag S15. These rods only last about 40 runs and then we get rid of them. Buy this as memorbilia and help us purchase new rods to keep our monster alive."

I am in the process of gathering parts for my upcoming build and it became clear that what I wanted was going to be custom and since the rod price is independent of rod length I ended up with aluminum. Of course for my planned power level I would have needed them anyway.

What power level/rpm ranges/boost are your gents motors at?

Probably because of either stretch or compression. These are rated to about 1400whp as well. They have already lasted at the 1000whp level for 60+ passes so for 700whp street/race duty I think they'll do. The 15k that we have already seen was on a 506whp 2.0L

Since we run E85-E98 all the time around here, my plan is to run 30 daily on mine (162mm 2.2, turbo mostly decided on) and 40-45 for when I get called out...or have the urge for single digit e.t.'s. We run these all the way up to 11k rpm (in Paul's Evo) and havent had failure issues with that coupled with the boost and the overall power level. I am only planning on 9000 or so with mine.

What about you Jeff? I see your power level, but what RPM range are you going to now?
