Possible MAF issue?

Here's the deal and why I think its my MAF; I was driving home ~3 weeks ago and it was snowing/sleeting and I noticed when I got home that a lot of dirty snow was on the front of my bumper. The next day I threw a CEL but went away after driving a couple of miles. It then came back intermittently and now is on all the time. I changed the air filter to a K&N panel filter (because my old one needed changing anyway) and noticed dried residue (almost like dried, dirty salt water) inside the filter box below where the filter sits.

I'm thinking some dirty *** water ended up inside my filter and possibly settled on the fins of the MAF. I tried calling a local dealer just to run the code for me, but they wouldn't do it under warranty because I've got a catback (Bull****, I know!). I may try another local dealer that I've used in the past and see if they'll check the code for me. Anyways, does this sound like the culprit or something else? I'm open to any ideas.

BTW, my gas mileage has dropped around 50 miles a tank and my exhaust smells extremely rich when idling. Also, the car "feels" the same, not like there is any loss of power....

Like Advanced or Autozone? Now I feel "special." I thought they would charge to check it, if they could check it at all. I may stop at one tomorrow and see what they say. Thx
