WTF?!?

Why on earth would you want to REMOVE the oil cooler?

That just sounds silly!

I just spun a bearing and I am thinking about just cleaning my old one. Should I just remove it completly and just buy a new one later on, I have a built 2.3L with a gt4088r making a little more than 500whp.. Am I ok to run with out it?

Your OE cooler is likely keeping your oil within the safe temperature range for DD (its design)...If you remove it and drive normal to hard on the street, your oil temperature will get way too hot, oil will break down, more prone to knock and engine damage, etc. Short trips to the market, you won't have an issue but extended periods in boost will create a ton of heat...

IMO. play it safe and use the stock one or upgrade it. why remove it? to save weight? to eliminate a possible oil leak in the future? it seem strange to take it out when its helping your motor. just my .02

Just run without until a cooler fit's the budget. Shouldn't be a problem blasting through the gears (execpt prolonged 4th or 5th gears) or even drag racing.

I'm curious if oil circulation improves w/o a cooler

You should do some research next time before you misinform people again.

To the OP, you'll be good removing it as long as you don't track the car road racing. It's fine for DD or making a few passes at the drag strip. I run without one.

What misinformation am I spreading? When I block air from the cooler my temps climbed more than 20* taking the oil beyond the ideal range. I would love to see real data you have that says removing an oil cooler from a turbo'd car is a smart thing to do...Sure you can say, 'I did it and nothing bad has happened yet' but that is hardly scientific...Best of luck with your debate....

What were the oil temperatures with and without the oil cooler?

Pssst! People have been running without them for years.

There wasn't a drastic change in oil temps from normal daily driving or making a few passes. I ran without one in my DSM also.

People have been removing the oil cooler for years.

^^ I never said you can't remove your cooler , just that it would be unwise for a DD that sees a fair bit of boost...As far as people removing them for 'years' -- people tinkering with cars do a lot of interesting things with the hopes of improving performance. That said, I have never seen one professional team (road race) or a qualified shop recommend removing factory designed oil cooling systems from a car...

I think it would be great if you had AMS, Buschur, CBRD, and others chime in ...

Best of luck...

I still have yet to hear what the great purpose behind this would be. Why would you want to intentionally raise your oil temps (I just don't see how you can remove it and not raise the oil temp at all)?
