Question P0234 Wastegate Malfuntion

After i put my Testpipe on I got PO234 CEL. It only came on once.. Now a couple days ago it came back on and it wont let me boost high anymore. It goes to about 13lbs and the car feels like it hits Fuel Cut. But its not hitting fuel cut. As soon as it does it, I get anywhere from 5-10 knock. Btw it is cold here.

Is there something wrong with my Wastegate? And do i need to get a new one or can the old one be fixed?

That's the overboost code. You are hitting fuel cut.

your solenoid is probably broken or not plugged in

Usually that code is displayed when you hit boost cut more than 1 time during a driving session. Hitting boost cut once brings the code to a "pending" point, twice will trigger the code to an "active" point and trigger the SES light. If the code isn't cleared it drops you to wastegate pressure (12psi) until the code is reset or the ecu cycles a few times. It doesn't mean the code is "gone", it just means the SES light turns off but the code is still active. If you haven't cleared the code, do it and see what happens. If it returns again but you haven't hit the boost cut limit, then you probably have a problem with the solenoid itself. Also the p0300 code tends to be associated with the p0234 and will cause some misfiring that could be mistaken for fuel cut. Clear all codes first and see what happens.

i cleared the po234. and it came back on doing the same thing.. and yes it did it more then once in the driving session. so ur right with the triggering of it.. im kinda scared to boost now because it keeps doing it. I do clear the code each time.

You need to get your fuel table leaned out.

The only way to tell would be to log the values and see. Bad gas or low octane has a high knock count to it, which triggers the octane rating to lower itself and interpolate or switch completely to the low octane rating map. I'm not 100% positive, but I do believe there is a boost table that goes along with the low octane map that runs a lower pressure.

But according to your mods though you have a MBC, so I don't see how any of the above should affect your boost levels. Plain and simple if you have a MBC you have to leave the solenoid plugged in or you'll get a code for it. If you still hit boost limit cut again, that will usually cause the p0234 code even if it isn't connected and you'll need to raise your boost cut limit or lower your psi being run on the mbc. Hope that helps.

slo crx is right if you have a mbc this is all unrelated...

make sure your solenoid is plugged in and make sure you have a small piece of tubing looped to the two ports on the solenoid
