Help!!! Coolant running low after motor build
Help!!! Coolant running low after motor build
Hey guy,
I recently got my motor rebuilt at "The SHop". I have been driving the car for about 400 miles so far with out any problems. Last night i went for a cruise and saw the car overheating, so i pulled over to let the car cool down so i could go back to my house. I noticed the temp of the car go up when ever i was at idle, but when cruise the temp dropped dramaticaly.Every morning i have been checking the oil and coolant on the car, these past 3 days i had to add about a gallon of coolant within those 3 days. What could be the problem?? Please help me out guys.
-thanks

air in the cooling system is a possibility. Sounds like the cooling system wasn't bled. I'd say bleed the coolant system first. Does the oil look like it has coolant in it (nasty milky looking crap)?
Since to cooling system only holds 2 gallons, being a gallon low hardly seems possible. What is happening to the coolant level in the bottle? If it is full to overflowing the HG is blown. Otherwise, try replacing the thermostat.

check your radiator cap leaking, that might be the issue... i had that problem with my old turbo integra, and i didnt see it at first... but after a while the bubbles were more noticeable and that overheating led to my first blown gasket....argh!!! make sure to not run any heat or your blowing that sucka!!! good luck..
its leaking somewhere...no question. jack it up, start it...crawl under it....oh....and be careful.
check the line (about a 1.5" pipe) coming off the water pump on the rear of the motor...maybe the o-ring in there is leaking.

+1^. Also check the lines coming off the turbo( if your turbo is still water cooled), and all the other coolant lines/hoses. there are two on the back side of the block that run underneath the throttle body. Check your freeze plugs to see if they are leaking. Usually when they rebuild a motor they replace the freeze plugs. You could do a Coolant pressure test. It is basically a hand pump that has a radiator cap on the end of it and you screw it on and pump it up and youll find the leak if you have one. Also i would check the thermostat and radiator cap. I'd say start with the coolant pressure test.
I had one of my turbo coolant lines that had a pin hole leak in it. And ive had a freeze plug that leaked also.
