Was the timing belt tension tool thread in all the way? Are you saying the crank won't line up or the cam gears won't line up?

you havent disconnected anything? Just trying to get the marks lined up first I assume.

The exhaust cam should be one tooth off and the crank should be one tooth off. This is per factory service manual group 11b-16.

It is recommened due to spring pressure on the head to loosen the timing belt in this manner as well. During installation I believe the cam marks will end up lining up but it will take a wrench on the exhaust cam to hold it inplace as you tighten the tensioner pulley. Its been a few months since I did this. If you have access to the factory service manual...I would suggest you follow it.

PM me if you cant locate a copy.

the crank gear wont line up to TDC plus it'll only rotate up to 90 degrees instead of a full 360. the cam gears are ok. its just the crank gear im worried about

It sounds like you have it timed incorrectly. From what I can gather you changed thebelt and are now turning the engine over by hand and it will not rotate? Take the timing belt off, reset everthing and start again.

I hate the timing belt job. I had to redo it over and over again. Is your car in gear? Is your lower timing belt cover still off? If so, you can line up the crank pulley as well as balance shaft sprocket and oil pump sprocket to their marked spots.

So the crankshaft wont turn over with the timing belt off is what your saying. Make sure both of your camshaft dowl pins are vertical on the camshafts. If they are and the crankshaft still wont turn over WITHOUT the timing belt on you have bigger problems.

If the camshafts are not setup at TDC "dowl pins at the 12 o"clock position" you could be hitting the valves that are open when you are trying to crank the crankshaft.
