Probably so, the fuel demand will go up with a 2.3 and if you go red in the future you will most certainly need bigger.

I hate to say it man but you may be deeper in the hole than you think. If the motor lunched itself, be prepared to replace the turbo and the head. I hope you don't need too, but there is a chance some inside bits made it to the outside via the exhaust path, which includes the turbine wheel. Also a chace that the valves introduced themselves to the pistons on one or more cylinders

How about a high compression 2.3?

That might turn out to be an interesting motor. Maybe a 10:1?

So you don't know what happened and your out engine shopping? Get the cause before you jump to conclusions.

Sounds like a rod bolt failed, common link in these motors. Mine did it many moons ago, a friend of mines fpgreen/alky car did it less than 2 weeks ago.

When mine went the turbo ended up being ok, clipped a wheel or two but it worked fine. Fubared the head for the most part...and of course the whole shortblock is unusable scrap.

there seem to be many options. i need to i figure out what is "reasonable" to spend on the car at this point. i think i am leaning towards a 2.0 again though. as it was plenty powerful for my tastes plus i wont have to get bigger injectors, re-tune the car etc...

With all of these recommendations for a 2.3, what does a 2.3 $$$ go for now anyways?
