I thought HKS use Garrett turbos with special turbine and compressor wheels.

HKS does but I'm pretty sure they also make their own.

HKS modified Garrett turbos, usually they just use different housings. The HKS GT3240 is the closest to a 35R, compressor and turbine are a little smaller though.

AFAIK, HKS just (mis)matches their own combinations of Garrett compressors and turbines.

The GT3540 is an old designation for a GT3582.

I would just go with a Garrett turbo myself. Some of the HKS turbos are nice, but not all of them. You buying a complete kit or just a turbo?
