Valve spring question for 280 HKS

I just bought HKS 280 cams and wanted to know if I need valve springs and retainers. The car now has 100000 miles on it.

Yes, you will need to get new springs and retainers, because of the lift on the cams.

Many people are running them on stock springs/retainers, including myself. They're pretty mild compared to other 280s, same lift as HKS 272s with alot less ramp rate than other big cams. Even some larger cams like the FP4Rs are ok on stock springs up to 8k.

Would definitely suggest it due to the number of miles on the car.

You could pick up a set of Brian Crower spring and retainer kit for $220.00. They would be alot better then your factory high mileage springs.

meh. Slap them in and go. These cams are so nice to the stock valve train, I wouldn't worry about it. If you ever have the head off, go with the GSC 5039 beehives.

factory springs are quite amazing. they test just like new ones do even with 100,000 miles on them. you dont need springs with HKS 280 cams. the profile is easier to follow than a stock cam. stock springs can rev to 9000 on stock cams so you can expect the same on the 280 cams.

No need, unless you plan to rev over 8k.
