Driver side axle popped out

I had my transfer case replaced on my 05 evo 8 about 15k miles ago. I started to notice oil on the floor of my garage recently. After researching I found it was gear oil from the transmission. The area of the leak looked to be coming from the axel seal. So I assumed that it might have been damaged at the time of the transfer case replacment. After finding that the dealership that warrentied the car closed down I took it to my favorite local speed shop. When the car was In the air on the lift it was found that the seal was fine. The axel was out away from the transmission. So we Pushed it in. Well now two days later it's still leakng. Come to find it popped out again. I am wondering if anyone has had this problem. If so please shed some light. Will I need to just get a new retaianing ring or axel inner? Thanks in advance.

I would try the new retaining clip first. Cheapest and easiest thing to do. Cant go to another Mitsu dealer or do you have mods?

it could be your axles being worn or old at the outer cv joints. and also your front diff might be blown... i understand you just got a new transfer case but these diffs break ALL THE TIME. put the front of the car in the air, have both axles in place correctly, spin one tire and make sure the other spins opposite with constant respect to the movement of the one your moving by hand. if you feel it move then stop then move or it doesnt move at all. you have problems. also if they both move the same way and you KNOW you dont have a front lsd, its bad.

When I replaced my TC with a shep piece the axle seal was leaking tranny fluid all over. A new one from mitsu fixed it right away.

I had the axel out, inspected it nothing binding. I am going to start with that retaining ring and go from there.

Can you pull it out by hand? If so, replace the retaining ring first. before jumping to conclusions that the diff is bad. You should need a prybar to pop it loose.

i have and as i said before verify that your axles aren't hard to turn at the cv joints. this could cause outward pressures that will pull the axles out... further more if its an open viii front diferential it can be also the cause of the problem.

Sorry to mention the seal was changed. It keeps popping out that's whats causing the leak. I was hoping that someone has seen this or knows what causes it so it can be fixed and prevented.

I actually can pull it out by hand. That's exactly what I was thinking when I made this thread. I was hoping I wasn't the only one. I am going to change out the ring and see what happens.

I'm thinking that when shep did mine he installed it with a bad seal. It was dissapointing getting the car back together only to park it again after a few months. I hope you can get the seal in and back on the road. Getting it to seat properly was a pita.

My experience is that the axle clip can be bent a little when the axle is pulled. This can make subsequent axle replacement and removal difficult. Also, when installing a new clip don't horse it into place on the axle but use as little prying as possible.
