Ok so I got the new circlip In Today. Took the old one off (pain in the ***) compared them and it looked stretched about 1/4 inch larger diameter then the new(but I may have strectched it getting it out). Now trying to put new one on (bigger pain in the ***) and I can't without stretching it out it seems. I don't want to damage the new one. Anyone had to deal with this yet. Thanks again in advance.

i would change out the seal if it is leaking. the seal costs less than $20. also if it keeps leaking, you may have to put in a new axle stub in , not a new axle.

the seal is against the outer part of the female end on the axle inner cv isnt it? why would you need the axle stub?

he said he may need a new axle, which probably is not the case. if he is having leaking issues along with his axle not locking into place even with a new c clip the next thing to look at would be the stub axle. unless the case got gouged or damaged.

I already changed the seal, now circlip, and still leaks. The axle inner is damaged that's all I can think of. I can slide the inner joint about a 1/4 inch back and forth after new circlip just the same as the old one (I really didn't think the old one was bad) I inspected the axle inner when it was out and it looked a little chewed up where the circlip is suppose to seat. Is it possible the output shaft is not all the way in the TC? I checked to see if the output shaft was seated and it seemed fine. This is really turning into a pita. I forgot to mention that the ball joint boot had a slight tear in it. Thanks

Do you have an RS? If so, I have a used driver side axle for sale. The ABS ring has very slight damage (ABS works at speeds<70mph, but the sensor doesn't see the nicked tooth at higher speeds). If you don't have ABS this won't be a problem. You could also buy it and some new boot retaining rings and use the inside half of mine and the outside half of yours. Just throwing that out as an option.

well, that elimates the cheapest part. The input shaft not being all the way in...it wasnt that hard to push onto to seat if I remember correctly. And that boot being torn, thats not good either.

Without actually looking at it, I am afraid I cant give a good answer.

Sorry I meant the output shaft (stubby) what is happening is the inner joint after being seated on the output shaft has play in it sliding in and out 1/4 inch. The circlip is retaining it on, need a prybar to break loose away from the tranny, just still has that play.
