OEM Timing Belt Limits?
OEM Timing Belt Limits?
What are the limitations on the OEM Timing Belt?
I'm installing Cosworth M2 cams along with a Full Race Header on my stock 8 turbo. Car's tuned to 30 psi on E85 and will/should be around 400 whp. Will the OEM belt be sufficient or should I go with one of the aftermarket belts like Gates, Greddy, HKS, etc? I'll eventually be putting on a FP Red and should be well into the mid 400's by then. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
- Steve

If your going to break it down to install cams, you might as well go ahead and install a high-strength t-belt. Greddy is good, but i prefer Power Enterprise myself. The extra security just gives you that warm fuzzy feeling. Do it, Do it

How many miles do you have on it? Even though you're doing cams I don't think the belt has to come off if you decide to stick with the stock one. Isn't that what the t-belt tensioner is for?
greddy belt and power enterprise are all made buy the same company called gates.

Actually even the manufacturers of the aftermarket belts recommend changing them at the factory interval. They may advertise higher strength and longer life but you should not risk your high performance or even your stock engine for a fairly cheap part like a timing belt. I make over 340hp and run a stock belt, I've got friends running in excess of 500whp running the stock timing belt. I've never seen a stock timing belt on the 4G63 break from excessive power only from lack of maintenance or abuse or other mechanical failure.
